Do you have any cool ideas for curtains for teen age bedrooms?
Curtains for teen age bedrooms don’t just have to be functional – they can be fun too!
Following are some great ideas to dress up ordinary curtains and show you how to think outside the (typical window) box. Plus, I’ll share with
you one of my favorite easy-to-sew curtain ideas.
Pretty up your curtains
A few little extra touches here and there can really make a difference. Consider adding contrasting borders, welted edges, or ribbon to solid
colored curtains.
Simple yet contemporary
For a contemporary look that’s sleek and a little off centre consider a single swag and an asymmetrical jabot (a decorative arrangement of
lace).
Accessorize with ribbons If you’re looking for a feminine way to frame a girl’s bedroom window consider tying ribbons
around each curtain ring.
Hockey stick curtain rod
This idea is great for a hockey player or sports fan in general. Use curtain rod brackets on either side of the window to support a hockey stick
and then hang a solid colored curtain on it.
A great way to make curtains for teen age bedrooms really stand out is to use creative things to tie them back with.
Lace or ribbon Use lace or ribbon to accent and tieback feminine curtains in a teen girl’s room.
Toy animals
If you have animal print curtains hot glue related plastic animals to solid color tiebacks e.g. a small zebra glued to a thick black cord.
Chain links
Lightweight chains are a funky way to tieback curtains for teen age bedrooms. Such chains are readily available at most hardware stores. At your
option, you can leave the chain as is or spray paint it to match your room.
Scarf tiebacks In a teen girl’s room, use colorful scarves to tieback curtains.
Retro ‘tie’ backs For a teen boy’s room consider tying back curtains with a couple of retro ties from the men’s section at
your local thrift shop.
Nautical knots
For an outdoors or sailing inspired theme teen room go to a boat supply store and purchase a couple of nautical hooks (the kind you use to tie
your boat to a dock). Tie your curtains back with heavy cord and knot onto the hooks.
If you have access to a sewing machine or the patience to hand sew, here’s a great curtains for teen age bedrooms idea you can easily do
yourself.
How to made fringed panel curtains
Panel curtains make great curtains for teen age bedrooms since they are a snap to make and allow air to flow and light to peak through.
Start by selecting three colors of fabric that work well with your teen bedroom decor and are thick enough to will give you some privacy.
For a standard-sized window:
Approx. 3 yards of fabric (one yard for each panel)
Approx. 3 yards of fringe
Curtain rod
Thread
Using a tape measure take the measurements of your window. Bring the measurements with you and consult the sales clerk at fabric store if your
window is exceptionally large and you’re unsure of whether you have enough fabric.
You’ll need to allow at least 3” in length for the curtain rod sleeve and the bottom hem. Additionally you want to factor in another inch or
two in width to allow for sufficient window coverage on both sides.
Cut the fabric into three panels. Next, create a ½” seam around each panel. Fold the fabric over about 1 ½” on the top of each panel and sew a
sleeve for the curtain rod. Now sew a fringe along the bottom edges of the each panel. Insert the panels on the rod. Install the rod hardware and
hang up your new fringed panel curtains.
